Longtime readers of this blog are aware that at one I time wrote more frequently about political topics, one of which was the contentious issue of redistricting.
Well, we're going through yet another round of discussions and proposals about changing the way congressional and legislative districts are drawn in Ohio.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but the easiest — and inherently fairest — solution is to require all districts to conform to a mathematical model of compactness. Voters instinctively view those districts that are the most compact as those that are the most fair, and they have greater satisfaction that their representatives are truly representative of their community.
This solution is a no-brainer, which, of course, means it will never be enacted.
