I was anticipating a tremendous tomato harvest this year. A new raised bed was added with fresh soil. The plants were started from seed in the basement at the right time and prospered when transplanted. We've received more than abundant rainfall through the spring and into the summer. And the plants were starting to set lots of fruit.
But an animal has taken a liking to green tomatoes, and I have watched helplessly as that animal goes into the bed and pulls green tomatoes off the plants, stripping them bare. Then, mocking me, the animal devours the fruit right in front of my eyes, not even flinching at my screams.
I have a critter problem in the garden this year, and this is the critter.
